Quick and easy ways to stop sinus, throat, and respiratory symptoms in their “tracts”
Seasonal allergies are not just totally annoying, they are becoming a serious health and wellness issue. Listed as the 6th leading cause of chronic illnesses in our country, allergy-induced disease and their secondary health issues are nothing to sneeze about. Numbers now suggest that some 50 million Americans are affected with hay fever and allergy-induced inflamed sinuses, runny nose, itchy eyes, coughing, and dry, irritated throats.
Many individuals can go on to suffer sinus infections, bronchitis, asthma, and middle ear infections when their mucus membranes are under frequent assault.
Here’s my personal program for proactively tackling symptoms before they develop into more severe conditions:
(scroll down to #8 for a “get to the root” permanent solution)
1) Try a once-daily sinus cleanse. Mix 1/2 tsp Celtic salt and purified, body-temperature water in an 8 ounce neti pot. Washing out mucus may help sinus sufferers get relief in two weeks or less.
2) If you prefer a nasal spray to an all-out sinus rinse, try Xlear xylitol sinus spray. You may be familiar with Xylitol as a sweetener. Well, it can also be used to prevent infections, but not because it’s an anti-bacterial. It binds with bacteria, allowing it to be rinsed out of the body. I believe a neti pot is more thorough, but a spray bottle is definitely more portable.
3) Spray away pathogens. Increase defense by using effective herbal fighters like echinacea and Osha Root. For a dry, irritated or sore throat and post nasal drip, consider a solution like Singer’s Saving Grace (not just for singers). This throat spray contains a collection of immune enhancers such as echinacea and Osha Root.
Although echinacea is a well known “natural antibiotic,” Osha Root has outstanding antibacterial and anti viral properties that help relax smooth muscles, aiding both asthmatic breathing difficulties and coughs. OK for daily use for both children and adults.
4) Avoid “adult beverages.” Drinking during hay fever season can cause inflammation of the sinus and nasal membranes. No more cocktails for a while.
5) Use essential oils. I often recommend a little eucalyptus dotted on a tissue placed under your nose for sniffing.
6) Defend against the dreaded pollen. Before bed, shower and wash your hair, because hair is a primo spot for pollen to collect. Change your clothing after being outside on high pollen count days and stay indoors on blustery days.
7) Assist your adrenal glands – your body’s “fight or flight” center for stress. Allergies, as well as hypoglycemia, fatigue, bags underneath your eyes, repeated stress of any type, and negative belief systems are all signs of adrenal exhaustion. This can be corrected gradually using simple and consistent lifestyle changes.
Bear in mind that recurring respiratory infections are one of the most troublesome toxic loads on your adrenals so attending to severe or chronic infection like sinusitis, bronchitis or pneumonia is vital to overcoming adrenal fatigue. Just about all types of respiratory illness go hand in hand with low adrenal function.
Possibly the easiest thing that you can do for your adrenals is put sleep on the top of your “to do” list. Lack of replenishing, growth-hormone producing sleep is a serious obstacle to complete adrenal recovery, and is typical with individuals who exhibit both high and low cortisol levels. Going to bed by 9:30 pm so that you’re asleep by 10 pm is ideal, along with the faithful supplementation of an adrenal support dietary supplement at 7 am, 11 am, and 3 pm.
Eating breakfast before 10 am, decreasing caffeine intake, sweets, refined carbs, and focusing on protein at every meal (and a protein-rich bedtime snack, if desired) is essential in helping you regain your energy, stamina, and improve your immune defense throughout allergy season.

8) Try a Vitality Session to learn what issues may be underlying your allergies. We can often correct them during the session, while we’re still on the phone.
There are so many possibilities when you’re getting to the bottom of chronic issues – from misalignment of a skull bone to an emotional energy that got stuck in your digestive system – that may seem off the wall.
That is, until you realize you’re breathing. Freely.
It’s really nice not to have to take anything – even natural stuff – to keep away the snuffles, coughing, and sneezing.
